4 Bullet-Proof Tips For Balancing Hormones

If you don’t know where to start when it comes to balancing your hormones & experiencing predictable, PMS-free periods Nikki from My Moon Box has 5 top tips for balancing your hormones naturally!

Think Small

Yep – that may sound strange but when it comes to balancing our hormones we over complicate it. We think we need to make 101 changes all at once, start some crazy restrictive diet & go to the gym 7 days a week..The problem is that when we make BIG drastic changes all at once we set ourselves up for failure. Big changes create overwhelm and are not sustainable.

The solution: Start by making SMALL, achievable, incremental improvements to your daily food & lifestyle habits. Over time these small upgrades will compound into the greatest hormone balancing results.

Eat Regular Meals.

The people who skip meals (I’m looking at you breakfast skippers) are setting themselves up for the most hormonal issues and menstrual challenges. Your body needs fuel to kickstart and maintain your metabolism & energy for the day. Skipping breakfast causes blood sugar imbalances & spikes in cortisol which mess with your sex hormones and can result in symptoms of estrogen dominance such as PMS, bloating, headaches & cycle irregularities.

Start with eating breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up and make sure to include at least 30 grams of protein, 2 tablespoons of healthy fat and wholefood carbohydrates with your meal to support blood sugar balance.

Drink Your Coffee after a meal

I always get asked, “is coffee bad for hormones?” But the problem isn’t with coffee itself, it’s the way we are consuming it. Drink your coffee AFTER a meal, never on an empty stomach. Science suggests that drinking coffee *after* instead of before breakfast is best for our glucose levels, and will also help to reduce the spike in cortisol which is better for optimal hormone health PLUS you’ll also experience more consistent energy throughout the day.

Increase magnesium intake.

There is no avoiding that every woman needs more magnesium. Period. Magnesium insufficiency is the root cause of all sorts of hormonal imbalances & symptoms including PMS, cramps, irregular periods, depression, poor sleep, PCOS, infertility and anxiety. Eating magnesium rich foods is important, such as nuts, seeds, grains, beans, seaweed and dark chocolate however you cannot get the adequate amounts of magnesium required from food alone.

Top up your magnesium with a few sprays of Moon Boost daily onto your belly!
