Mums Who Inspire Us – Erin Deering

In celebration of the recent launch of our post natal program – The 4th Trimester – we’ve caught up with some inspiring Peachy Mamas to pick their brains and have a REAL conversation. Here’s Erin Deering – founder of Triangl swimwear, and mother to 3 beautiful kids – soon to be 4!

.

How old are your kids?

‍♀️I have Oscar (6), Oly (3), Beatrice (1) and am 25 weeks pregnant with #4!

What was the worst piece of unsolicited advice you received either while pregnant or with a baby?

‍♀️Anyone who told me ‘you won’t sleep again’ – DUH! Because you do adjust to the sleep changes and it’s just the way it is so why make me more nervous about it?!

What surprised you most about the birthing process?

‍♀️With Oscar, it was the fact my midwife changed shifts halfway through my labor! Naturally of course this would most likely happen, but I just hadn’t thought that through. I lucked out though, the new midwife I got was an absolute superstar and can’t imagine how it would have gone without her (I had Oscar whilst living in Hong Kong 5.5 weeks early and his dad was overseas at the time, so I was all alone!)

What was the hardest part about coming home from hospital?

‍♀️I was very concerned coming home with Beatrice, and how I would be able to cope / sleep with 3 children under 6! However it was my fear of the unknown causing my anxiety, and it dissipated very quickly once we settled in.

What saves your sleep as a parent?

‍♀️ROUTINE!! Getting everyone into a good sleeping rhythm benefits us greatly. Beatle is down at 7pm, boys are 7:30-8pm, and at the moment ALL sleep through! And making sure we go to sleep early to when we can. Boring, but won’t be forever and it’s important we get those early hours in, because sometimes wake-ups can be horrifically early!

What’s your guilty pleasure as a parent?

‍♀️A babysitter most weekends so we can have a date night and feel like adults! Sure, we’re home by 9pm (pregnancy doesn’t lend to a super fun social time) but gosh it’s nice to not be ‘mummy’ for a few hours!

What do you do now, as a mum, that you ‘swore you’d never do’?

‍♀️Everything! Screen time, junk food, bribes with toys…the list goes on!

What advice do you wish you’d been given as a new mum?

‍♀️To RELAX and know every feeling you have as a new mum is valid and totally normal!!

And as cliche as it sounds, really to enjoy the little moments, it’s only now, pregnant with my 4th that I really do feel ‘they won’t be small forever’ and am soaking it all in.

What are your ‘can’t live without’ mummy products?

‍♀️As a new mum: A great pump and accompanying bra, a belly band for support, and some new, loose clothes that still make you feel and look good even if you don’t leave the house!
